But I'll give you a little context. 1 Denarius = 4 Sestercii=16 As A secretary would earn 15 Denarii /month while a Praetorian (Roman guard) would earn 60 denarii/month. Among the highest earners were Centurions with 600 Denarii/month. A donkey cost 500 Sestercii. Would you imagine that a ring cost more than a donkey, or less? An entire month's wages for a praetorian? Secretary? You have artistic license here. BUT, you also have to consider the social status of the individuals you're marrying. Are they slaves, plebs, elites? That would also factor into what the individuals would pay for a ring. Just like it would today, right? I have to add, though, that what I've come across with the fede ring was that it was celtic. Romans did use rings on their ring finger with the belief that a nerve or sinue ran from the ring finger directly to the heart. Calling it a fede ring might be incorrect; However, I could be wrong, you might want to look more into that.
