How do i clean this ancient silver ring?????
I have a very old (100+ years) silver ring which has a blue jade stone in it. This ring has seen better days and is a dull matt greyish colour. Are there any easily available products or chemicals i can use to clean it?
Will any of the following have an effect; vinegar, lemon juice, saltwater, baking soda.
good ol' martha stewart would recommend vinegar and baking soda for the silver. line your sink with foil and cover the ring with baking soda and vinegar on the foil to make a paste. let it soak and wipe off. i clean silver this way all the time.

This link has several tools to help identify ancient coins. If you are unable to identify it yourself, you can contact them, and they will be more than willing to help you. There are also forums where you can post questions. I hope this helps.
Do you know anything about ancient silver mines?
Esp. in Greece. For example, what tools did they use? How did they excavate? What nationality were the slaves? How much silver did they extract? Are there any sources for this?
In most ancient cultures, ores were 'surface mined' - that is, they didn't dig long tunnels but scraped away at cliff faces or other areas where ores were visible. The first tools would have been bone scrapers. Slaves weren't always used - or at least, imported slaves. How much silver did they extract? That's anyone's guess. There were no records kept and as their extraction techniques were pretty crude, much would have been lost.
What would the value of an ancient silver coin be?
let's say from the year 1696?
A 1696 wouldn't technically be considered ancient. When it comes to coins, the 2 most important factors are grade, rarity, and size (silver content). Many old coins are a dime a dozen. I have a few over 1000 years old that I picked up on eBay for less than $20 But can you provide more details, what else does it say on the coin?
